About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for UBE2G1: The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-livedproteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three classes of enzymes: ubiquitin-activating enzymes, orE1s, ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, or E2s, and ubiquitin-protein ligases, or E3s. This gene encodes a member of theE2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family and catalyzes the covalent attachment of ubiquitin to other proteins. Theprotein may be involved in degradation of muscle-specific proteins. (provided by RefSeq) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: UB2G1_HUMAN, P62253Function: Accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins. In vitrocatalyzes 'Lys-48'-, as well as 'Lys-63'-linked polyubiquitination. May be involved in degradation of muscle-specificproteins. Mediates polyubiquitination of CYP3A4 Gene Wiki entry for UBE2G1 |
